Community
Alongside the studio, Anne Scott Wilson has spent many years teaching and working with communities: art and photography students, teachers, residents and other artists. She taught art and photography at Deakin University, ran classes for teachers in the Geelong area, and led an intensive camera obscura, cyanotype and 3D printing workshop at the University of Vaasa, Finland. She has shown students’ work in public, from the Gertrude Street Projection Festival and graduate exhibitions to The Familiar Unknown, the exhibition she curated in 2026.
She was one of the founders of Kings Artist Run Initiative in Melbourne. In 2017 she co-curated Sounding Histories, a nine-month artist investigation into the Mission to Seafarers building in Docklands for its centenary. In Geelong she has run drawing, writing and photography workshops in which residents imagined their city’s future, and gathered histories with the Macedonian community, whose former Ford workers dance the oro in her installation ORO. From 2013 to 2019 she ran Capture, a national photographic prize for high school students that she invented, and she judges art prizes.
